Hello and thanks for your interest.

James Champ was born to Richard Champ and Martha (Vivians) who married at Tyneham on 16 August 1773. I do not know when James was born but I believe it was before or very soon after Richard and Martha's marriage. Richard accepted responsibilty for the child before it was born and I did have a copy of the acknowledgement but unfortunately I have mislaid it! James died in the Weymouth Union Workhouse and was buried at Osmington 11 June 1852 his age given as 80. Susan had died in 1846 and was buried 24 April 1846 at Osmington.
I do not know when Richard was born but believe it was about 1747 as his age at his death on 20 November 1824 and subsequent burial at East Lulworth on 26th was given as 77.
Martha died at East Lulworth on 16 January 1831 and was buried there on 20th. Her age was given as 80 and this ties up with her baptism at Tyneham on 13 January 1750.
There are several candidates for the father of Richard but I cannot say which. A Richard Champ was buried at East Lulworth on 11 March 1762 and he could be the father. His age is not shown although I believe he, or certainly the family, was connected with the Axminster Champs. There ar no anglican baptisms of Champs at EL and the earliest RC one I have is 1776 although the baptisms date back to 1755.
I hope this helps.

Lewis
