Brian, our family that we know of, came from London in about 1723 with a boy named Anthony Chamness.... with the London family history as indicated on the Chamness National web page....

However, our main ancestor, the boy, came from a family living in a not affluent area of London where the father was listed as a carpenter, in the church record birth registry at St. John's of Wapping...

I doubt that this family was ever "landed" like those who were rewarded after 1066 and the Battle of Hastings... However, one James Chamness, Esq. had a home in Twickenham, named the Ferry House and he was Keeper of the Hunt as appointed by the Lord Mayor of London and who died in 1802 in Bath with burial there at Bath Abbey and with a plaque on the inside wall to his memory... He might have been landed, since he had estates in several counties... I believe that he was in the freight business also and may have dealt with some ship capains, since his will (I believe) mentions one captain...

I would be interested in relatively well related info on the London folks and how they might connect with Anthony Chamness, b. 1713 and came to the colonies in about 1723... with some problem there with the Gregorian calendar....

Dan Chamness....
