Is anyone working the John Ruffin Chamblee line who can offer comment on the Clinton and Cardin aspects of the following? I'm preparing my next attach on the Family History Center.:)
John Ruffin Chamblee married Alice Clinton. Marriage bond in Orange County posted April 21, 1848 with Norwood Warren as bondsman.
Children suspected as Jesse K., John R. Jr. , and William. Alice died November 20, 1851 and is buried in the same small family cemetery as Martha Clinton Woods, Mary Clinton Duke, and their parents Jesse and Rachel Vickers Clinton. (Was Alice the daughter of Jesse and Rachel, also? Unknown by me -- yet.) John, Sr. then married Elizaebth Proctor in 1854.
Now, just to confuse things more, there is a 9 year-old Martha Shambley shown in the census living with Martha Clinton Woods' in-laws (William and Patsey Cardin Woods) in 1860. Then in 1870, there is an 18 year-old Martha A. Dis(illegible). Could this be a child of Alice and John that for whatever reason did not live with John and Elizabeth after their marriage? And is the Martha Shambley of 1860 the same as Martha A. Dis... of 1870?
At this point, I am indulging in speculation in hopes of finding some ideas to play out on my next visit to the FHC.
