<<The obit I reffered to reads as follows. "Jacob Chamblee, Jr, son of Jacob Chamblee, of near Pleasant Ridge, died October 20th , aged about 13 and a half years...>> <<Two other notes in the Bible. 1. Jakie Chamblee died the 23 August 1884>> The original question was, was there another Jacob in the family since one of them died at 13 years old? It is not uncommon for two people with the same name to be in a family during this time, particularly if one died young, a succeeding child would assume the name. There is no way to know the truth about the children until you do ALL the census studies and work out the children. Perhaps your "Jacob" is a middle name of someone. It depends on the birth date you have, doesn't it? I have 1850 for you: 1850 Jacob Shamblee 35 farmer $960 b. SC, Pickens Co AL Charity [Cockrell] 25 f. b. NC Eliza A. 7 b. AL (marr Henderson Eatman) John L. 5 b. AL Frances 3 female b. AL Elizabeth 3/12 b. AL and 1880: 1880 Census, ED86, p 26 VERY LIGHT HARD TO READ, ENTRY VERY FADED This from the Soundex, so it's best to pull up the actual census to get more details. 278/278 Pleasant Ridge Precinct Jacob Chamblee 66 head farmer SC SC SC Sarah 44 wife AL SC SC Rachel 16 dau AL SC SC Louisa 14 dau Jacob Jr . 9 son AL SC SC Jane 6 dau AL SC SC Gaston 25 son planter AL SC SC If you really want to know the truth you are going to be forced to look at the 1860, 1870, and any state Alabama census, etc. and carefully work out the details. It would seem from your past message, quoted above, above that there are two different children named Jacob based on two different death dates. One died October 20th and one died August 23rd. Info missing: 1. Date of newspaper where obit occurred, even roughly (do you know the name of the newspaper as well?). If you know the year of the newspaper then you know WHEN in Oct 20 this Jacob died. Maybe you said that and I missed it. 2. Census of Jacob & Jane Sherrod Chamblee. What age was Jacob in the 1900, 1910, 1920 census? What details does the census give for him re. his children, marriage, family, etc. 3. When was he married to Jane Sherrod? It would be nice to find out which children came via Jane and which from Sarah. 4. Do you know the death date of the Jacob who married Jane Sherrod? His descendent, Nora, was in the bible of Jacob/Sarah so Jacob/Sarah Chamblee presumably must be the parents. I have only picked up Jacob Chamblee & Charity Cockrell & Sarah Morrow Chamblee (the wives) in the 1850 and 1880 census when I have bumped into them looking for someone else, I have never done a focused study. I'd also like to know who has that bible record? Where did you get it? You typed from the bible: . Jacob Chamblee was married to his wife Sarah E. Morrow on the 6 of August 1863. I had August 1853, which must be a transcription error from whomever copied their date. This must be reverified with marriage records in Greene Co. (The rough info I have came from Jewel Knerinam who is now deceased which is all undocumented)
