Hi,

We are an informally organized group of researchers called The Chamblee & Chamlee Family Network. www.nauvoo.com/family/chamblee/index.html

I have about 7 other Jacob Stricklands in my database, all have been accounted for during the time period you need.

I also have tentative (unproven and unverified) records that show Jacob & Sarah Morrow are the parents of your ancestor. Your information you have on exact dates of birth and death leaves a great question of the veracity of such a claim then.

I have this:

1880 Census, ED86, p 26
VERY LIGHT HARD TO READ, ENTRY VERY FADED
This from the Soundex too:
278/278 Pleasant Ridge Precinct
Jacob Chamblee 66 head farmer SC SC SC
Sarah 44 wif AL SC SC
Rachel 16 dau AL SC SC
Louisa 14 dau
Jacob Jr . 9 son AL SC SC
Jane 6 dau AL SC SC
Gaston 25 son planter AL SC SC

According to your records the Jacob in the above census died 20 Oct 1884, four years after the census. Too bad we don't have the 1890 census to string more evidence together.

If you say the birth date was 1871, then it coincides with the census above though.

Jacob married twice. The first time to Charity Cockrell:

1850 Census
Jacob Shamblee 35 farmer $960 b. SC, Pickens Co AL
Charity 25 f. b. NC
Eliza A. 7 b. AL (marr Henderson Eatman)
John L. 5 b. AL
Frances 3 female b. AL
Elizabeth 3/12 b. AL

Why don't you try to follow the Jacob in the above censues to see when he might have died and then YOU read the estate records and form your own opinions. Too frequently genealogy passes around the internet which is not true because no one ever checked the records.

I would also keep checking the area for other "Jacob CHamblee" individuals (with all the spellings). Perhaps he didn'ed die in 1884 after all. I'd like to see the clipping you are referring to.
