Chamberlin Family Genealogy Forum

It's nice to hear from you again, Elizabeth, regarding Chamberlain/lin genealogy. Your message didn't state exactly why you posted this information, but Bill Mennel's two replies to your posting clearly identify two of the three Chamberlains you listed there in East Thetford Cemetery, Thetford, Orange Co., VT. I have the same FGR records prepared by the late David Conrad Chamberlin, Sr. here, in case you have additional questions about any of the information, including sources.
- Doctor Chamberlin (for whom you listed no data) might be the same person as I have listed as Doctor Chamberlain, bpt. Jul 1802, Orange Co., VT, d. 27 Jun 1804, prob. Thetford, Orange Co., VT, 1 of 9 known children of John(6) Chamberlain, b. 9 Nov 1764, Hebron, Tolland Co., CT, d. 4 Nov 1843, Rochester, Monroe Co., NY, who was married, 11 Oct 1788 in Thetford, CT, to Lydia Ho(r)sford, b. 23 Jul 1771, Thetford, VT, d. 11 Oct 1853, West Sparta, Livingston Co., NY. I can provide more information on this family, if you wish. The ancestral line of descent: Abner(5), John(4) Jr., John(3), Benjamin(2), Richard(1). John(4) was the founder of Thetford, VT, which I've visited several times - a lovely New England village up along the Connecticut River.
- The brothers Samuel(6) and Benjamin(6) whom you listed, are also grandsons of Thetford's founder, John(4) Chamberlain. Considerable is known about various members of these families. One of their brothers, Ezekiel(6), settled here where I now live, in Webster Twp., Washtenaw Co., MI, in 1844 [I settled here just a tad later, in 1967!] - the ancestor of Welton Chamberlain, my fifth cousin, and first President of the World Chamberlain Genealogical Society in 1996, who now lives neaby in Pinckney, Livingston Co., MI. Welton and his mother both spent a lifetime researching this particular family, and authored several genealogy books on the subject. Another brother, John Green(6) Chamberlin [he changed the surname spelling for unknown reasons], moved his family to NY State just before 1810, eventually settling in Milton Town, Saratoga Co., NY - he was my own grgrgr-grandfather. His only known son, Dr. Joseph Fitch(7) Chamberlin, moved with his family to Kankakee Co., IL about 1864. One of his sons, Dr. George Montgomery(8) Chamberlin of Chicago, was an active member & V. P. of the first Chamberlain Association of America in 1906, eventually becoming its President sometime before 1917. I'm descended from Dr. George's brother, John James(8) Chamberlin, a teacher, farmer and businessman, my great grandfather, who died of TB in Humboldt KS in 1876, and whose descendants were also Chicago people, and interested in the history of this family.
Needless to say, I have a whole lot of information on these families that happened to surface in your GenForum posting. We're still doing active research on it, of course - always looking for new data.
