Looking for further information on Jacob C & Sarah Payson. With the new Chamberlain DNA testing in progress, it has somewhat been established that my earliest known progenitor John, who reportedly married a Mary or Matilda ATHERTON may have been a brother to Stephen(one of the known sons of Jacob) At least the markers seem to indicate that from what I understand. Stephen's DNA from a descendant decend back to Edmond and our markers are quite similar i am told by the tests conducted. I know much of this is sketchy and does not 100% prove it. But the markers seem very identical. One of my ggg grandfather's son was also called George STEPHEN which may be a clue. Since I have no proof of this marriage of John C and Matilda Atherton other than a bible and a descendant's letter written in 1850, I can only assume with the DNA testing this is indeed the correct line, until something further rules it out.. My first proven Progenitor, John b. 1784 in Newton, Sussex Co NJ tells his grandson in a letter, his people were from CT and before that MA and that John's g grandfather( Probably b. abt 1740) was a Revoutionary soldier and a teacher after the war. This John the Patriot, accordingly ran away from YALE college to join the other Patriots that fought.. I have not been able to find anything in way of proof beyond John who m. Mary Little in Sussex Co., NJ and that he indeed was a soldier in the war of 1812. I also can not find the John who was either the father or grandfather of John b. 1784, who was a Revoutionary Soldier. They must have moved to Sussex Co after the Rev war because I have in several sources as John b. 1784 was b. in NJ. There is one John C buried in Windham Co b. 1742 who died in Woodstock, CT. This is apparently where my line ended up in CT.(below is the excerpt) *Quasset Cemetery, *in Windham Co., CT, * Chamberlin, John, died June 23, 1826, age 84 yrs 3 mos 5 days, Revolutionary War .(insert b. abt 1742) Please let this be my John who m. Mary or Matilda Atherton. I have looked and many of my extended family has looked many many years to solve this and repeatedly FAILED to locate them before NJ. I am a member of the DAR on my mother's paternal side. Chamberlain is my mother's maternal line. Are we getting closer with this new DNA discovery? Might this be our John the Patriot after all bried at thsi location? Anyone know this John of of whom I speak of who is indexed at this cemetery? Is there a listing anywhere on him? Thanks for any replies, Penny Notify Administrator about this message?
