Thank you very much for your followup posting, in response to my 24 May 2004 posting. I'm glad to learn of your cousin's new Chamberlin book. To clarify this set of several postings a bit, since they are quite confusing, for the benefit of other readers, your 22 May 2004 initial posting in this series provided a War of 1812 service record for an Isaac Chamberlin, of Stockbridge, Windsor Co., VT. I assumed this to be his place of residence (not necessarily so, of course - it could instead be his enlistment place), so my response listed two possible candidates among Stockbridge residents, both descendants of William(1) Chamberlain. Peter Chamberlin's 1 Jun 2004 response (he said you posted this information for him) pertains to a line which is completely unrelated to William(1). The person he discussed is Col. Isaac(6) Chamberlin [William(5), William(4), Joseph(3), William(2), Henry(1)], bpt. 14 Jun 1753, Colchester, New London Co., CT, d. 20 Apr 1828, who married Sally Bagley, 1814, and who lived in Strafford, Orange Co., VT from at least 1790 until his death. Pete confirmed to me the burial of this Col. Isaac in Kibling Cemetery in Strafford, VT. This Isaac is believed to have served in the Amer. Rev. together with his brother Col. Asahel of Thetford (Rev. War records mentioned in my files here probably pertain to them). Pete's 2 Jan 2005 Email to me discussed his recent research in VT with his cousin, G. Richard Chamberlin of Florida, in which they concluded that "we can find no evidence of any commissions for Col. Asahel and Col. Isaac that they were titles of respect, bestowed upon them by the community..." It is unknown whether Col. Isaac served in the War of 1812. He could have.
Richard Chamberlin's 4 Aug 2004 posting pertains to Isaac Chamberlin, b. 14 Apr 1782, Strafford, VT, d. 25 Jul, 1863, Lisbon, Harmony Twp., Clark Co., OH, who was married 6 Jun 1805 to Polly Harriman. This Isaac is the son of Lt. Elias Chamberlin - a brother of Col. Isaac and Col. Asahel. This posting discusses known information for this Isaac in some detail. What the posting doesn't say is that it is known [ref. biographical data within FGRs prepared by the late genealogist, David Conrad Chamberlin, Sr.] that this Isaac, after serving in the War of 1812 in VT, removed with his family from VT to Livingston Co., NY, March 1817, thence to Clark Co., OH sometime before the 1820 census, as mentioned in Beers' History of Clark Co., OH, which [evidently incorrectly] states they came directly from VT to the Western Reserve in OH by sled and then went on to Lisbon. Incidently, Richard's posting incorrectly states that Isaac's daughter Caroline was born in Strafford in 1810 - my records here indicate her birth was recorded there 27 Aug 1812 - one of 6 known children in this family.
So, I still have no evidence that the War of 1812 service record you cited pertains to either of the Isaac's mentioned above, though they certainly could. Likewise, I wanted to point out to the readers of these postings that they pertain to two different persons, Col. Isaac Chamberlin and his nephew Isaac.
Regarding your cousin who is writing a book about Chauncey Chamberlin, I'm guessing this is Alice (Calkins) Geron of San Antonio, TX, daughter of Harry Radford Calkins & Mary Belle(10) Chamberlin [Harry Chauncey(9), Romeo Milton(8), Chauncey Milton(7), Chauncey(6), Oliver(5), Benjamin(4), Joseph(3), William(2), Henry(1)]. Alice posted a GenForum message, 19 Jul 1998, and also a query in the Chamberlain Chain, Vol. 27, p. 19, about the same time, and mentioned a 1902 booklet, published by Oscar Leland, which traces her family through the line of Fanny Tolles, who married Chauncey Milton Chamberlin, Alice's grgrgrandfather. Your message states that your cousin was Chauncey's granddaughter, but this appears to be incorrect.
Regarding your own identity, which your "J. transcriber" handle doesn't reveal, unfortunately, you said you are a Gouge, but you haven't said whether you are also a Chamberlin - I suppose not. Romeo Milton Chamberlin's wife was Katherine Jane "Kate" Gouge, as you said, b. 12 Dec 1832, so I suppose your are a cousin, several generations removed, of hers.
Please contact me via Email if you wish to discuss this information in greater detail.
