After I posted my message I secured additional information on Lewis H. Chamberlin. In the 1870 Census in Detroit Michigan is Lewis H. Chamberlin age 28, living with Charlotte 27, Walter 4 Dewitt 2 and May (Mary) 19. Commodore Chamberlin was survived by a daughter May born 1850, in addition to his son Lewis H., which would fit this 1870 family. Also there is a marriage record in Washtenaw Co. MI for Samantha Chamberlin - the name of the widow of Commodore Chamberlin - to Erastus LeSure in 1864, a few months after Lewis H. married Charlotte LeSure. Samantha LeSure can be found in the 1870 Washtenaw Co. MI Census in Ann Arbor 6th Ward living only with Lydia H. Chamberlin 15 and a student boarder. Addie Chamberlin died in the 6th Ward Ann Arbor in October 1869. There is an extensive biography of Lewis H. on a web page maintained for the 24th Michigan Infantry Regulars in which Lewis H. Chamberlin served during the Civil War. It appears that this information all pertains to the surviving family of Commodore Chamberlin and accounts for 6 children born to him, with Lydia being born after Commodore's death. Commodore's Estate had listed only five children without a listing for Lydia. Lydia subsequently married Ira Bayliss Littlefield and was living in Buffalo NY in 1898.
