My great great grandfather was a John Chamberlin, but he came to Massachusetts around 1840. He came from Innishanon, County Cork, but I don't know how common the Chamberlin name is in Ireland. As you know, the name is English. Have you tried naturalization records? I don't know if they had a naturalization process that early in our history. The place to start might be passenger lists. I doubt if many ships left from Ireland, though. He probably departed from England.
