About a year ago, Philip J. Chamberlain, one of the founders of the World Chamberlain Genealogical Society, spent considerable effort, with Deb Carpenter and others, on researching Southern U. S. Chamberlain lineages, and managed to put together a very nice, long lineage for this important line, with sources carefully cited. It runs 9 generations, for some descendants. The Littlepage lineage in New Kent Co., VA, is also included, by the way.I counted 12 persons named Edward Pye Chamberlayne - must have been quite a challenge to sort them all out!I have a copy of it here, or you can contact Philip directly [Email: [email protected]].To answer your question, it says that the William who m. Elizabeth Littlepage was 1 of 7 ch. of Edward Pye(2) Chamberlayne who m. Anne Kidley.Thomas(3) was one of William's brothers, and Thomas(1) was also the name of William's grandfather, b. 1630 England, who m. Eliz. Somers - they were first of this Chamberlayne line.William(3) came to VA c1720, and founded the New Kent Co. Chamberlayne family.Lots of info. available on this. The Custis plantation was next door to the home of William's son Richard Chamberlayne, it seems, and Philip has helped publish (in the Chamberlain Key), a very interesting, and carefully documented account of the initial meeting, at the Chamberlayne home, of George Washington and Martha Washington.I recommend you obtain a copy of it from the WCGS!
