My great-great grandfather Josiah Chamberlain came from the Lowell area up to to Gatineau in Quebec in the early 1800's with Philemon Wright (to work on mills). We are going crazy trying to find his place of birth and confirm that his parent was Josiah Chamberlain of Merrimack, N.H. and his grandfather was John Chamberlain married to Hannah Farwell of Merrimack. No luck finding vital records, just going on anecdotal stuff from my dad.
We know that our family was heavily involved in millwork in the Chelsea area of the Gatineau for years and there are Chamberlin (notice the spelling change) relatives still living in the area. I live in Vancouver, B.C. and my brother John Chamberlin lives in Ottawa, Ontario.
The Josiah we are looking for information oncame up with his three brothers Thomas, John and Leonard. We know that they were in Canada in l824 because their names show up on land deeds.
e-mail me if any of this sounds familiar or fits in with your searches.
I used Patrick Evan's information for a while but found all sorts of mistakes in his research.
Thanks,Laurel
