The lineage I have created here for this family is a bit shaky (unproven), but, based on analysis of census data, Stephen Chamberlain is believed to be a previously unidentified son of Penuel(5) Chamberlain, baptized 5 Nov 1769, Rochester, Strafford Co., New Hampshire, who was married, 1793 there, to Molly Randall. Penuel(5) is listed in the 1810 Census in New Durham, Strafford Co., NH (the census schedules for New Durham and many other towns in this region are missing for 1800 & 1820), and he was probably dead before 1830; in 1840 another, younger, Penuel, age 30-40, is listed in Exeter, Penobscot Co., Maine, who may be a son of this man. A Google search reveals an obscure listing which says Penuel Sr.'s daughter was Clarissa Chamberlain who married Nathaniel Ham, and that she was 1 of 14 children in this family. Another son is likely Daniel Chamberlain, b. c1796, who is listed next to Stephen in 1850. More work needs to be done to identify other members of this family. Penuel's ancestral line of descent is listed as: Jacob(4) William(3), Jacob(2), William(1) Chamberlain - one of the five original Ch'n immigrant ancestors in early New England. My reason for placing Stephen in this family: Penuel's one known son, Jacob(6), b. 1802, New Durham, NH, appears in the same family as Stephen in 1850:
