Though considerable time has elapsed, I hope you do hear back from Howard Ferguson regarding this family, but, if not, I do have a 1985 street address in Amherst, Ohio, for him listed here, that you could use to locate him and his family.I'd be pleased to correspond with you, if you wish, and share the information I've collected here.I maintain a large, detailed genealogical file on this family, that I created initially about 10 years ago from the data contained in Howard Ferguson's detailed lineage that was published by Carolyn Weidner in the Chamberlain Chain, Vol. 2, pp. 27-38, "Branch 17", about 1986, together with numerous queries he placed in this publication later on [see also Branches 36 & 37 that pertain to this family].I've supplemented this information through the years with data gathered from numerous other sources, and updated my file again this morning, as a result of seeing your posting.
Jacob Chamberlain (who might also be named James), b. c1756, possibly Lancaster Co., PA or perhaps Baltimore, MD, who married 1st) Mary Waugh/Way/Woy, before 1786 (perhaps in Baltimore), and married 2nd) Margaret P. Deal(e), 12 Jul, 1793, Washington Co., PA, has not been traced on back, though family history states that the Chamberlains came from Holland, and were of English extraction. As Howard stated, Jacob's father was Tory, and disowned him, but where the father lived is unknown.Jacob resided in NJ [his son Henry was said to have come from Baltimore] or Philadelphia, PA during the Rev. War.His first son Eli was born 19 Nov 1785 in Providence Twp., Bedford Co., PA.An early record of him is when he bought land, 15 Oct 1788 from Samuel Plumer, 75 acres located on John's Branch (N side) on the Juniata River except 1/2 saw mill - data from land records collected by Howard Ferguson.Another land record in 1794 nearby mentions the mill of John Woy, who might be related to Jacob's wife Mary [Mary's origins remain unknown].Jacob & family are listed in the 1790 census in Bedford Co., PA (town not listed), and in Providence Twp., Bedford Co., PA, in 1800-1820 census records. That's brief summary of the situation.
Please contact me via Email, if you wish, to discuss this information in greater detail, including information about your own descendant line of Elizabeth Chamberlain, b. 13 Sep 1831, Woodbury, Bedford Co., PA, who married William Gates.
