My 13 Jan 2004 posting, which you've answered here, provides a brief summary of the known origins of William Chamberlain who married Mary Rand, of Rye, NH.Specifically, he was born about 1705, prob. Massachusetts, parents unknown, and died 27 Nov 1729, Rye, Rockingham Co., NH; his wife Mary was the daughter of Thomas Rand.My records here include speculation by various researchers concerning William's ancestry - it is now generally recognized that he was a grandson of William(1), but just how remains uncertain.Their six children were born between 1737 and 1752, including Mary Chamberlain, b. 20 Jul 1746 [bpt. 27 Jul 1746 at Rockingham], who married George Parcher, 1772, at Scarborough, Cumberland Co., ME (his birth place), with several children born to them.George Parcher died 20 Apr 1831, in Chesterville, ME, but Mary's death date/place are unknown, but presumably they both spent their lifetimes there in Maine.
The late Chamberlain genealogist, David Conrad Chamberlin, Sr., in his formally prepared Family Group Record (FGR) for this family, quotes Prentiss Glazier, the leading Chamberlain genealogist of the previous generation (whose 1973 book I also have here), as stating that Mary has been claimed by descendants of John and Mary (Chamberlain) Phillips of Pownal, VT; Beekman, NY; & Waverly, PA - without validity. That Mary is more likely descended from Thomas(1) Chamberlain, according to Glazier.Your posting suggests to me that you are quoting from one of these erroneous family records, some of which are probably to be found online, unfortunately.
My records here contain extensive research notes on this particular subject, gleaned from the records of DCC, Glazier, and other sources. Here's what I have, in summary.Mary(5) Chamberlain, b. 13 Aug 1744, Sutton, MA [per Sutton Vital Records], d. 9 Nov 1815, Waverly, Abington Twp., Lackawanna Co., PA, married John Phillips, 20 Jan 1771, Pownal, VT (much more info. available on John Phillips). Some descendants claim that Mary was born 27 Jul 1745, VT, but this cannot be correct.Though there remains a degree of uncertainty about the identity of her parents (as originally expressed by Glazier), I'm fairly certain, as was DCC, that the Mary who married John Phillips was the same person as the Mary who appears in Sutton Vital Records, as I just mentioned. She was the daughter of Joseph(4) Chamberlain, b. 27 Jan 1713/14, Chelmsford, Middlesex Co., MA, d. about Jan 1761, Sutton, Middlesex Co., MA, who married, as his first wife, 17 Jun 1740, at Leicester, MA, Hannah Newton, b. c1716, prob. MA, d. bef. 1757, prob. Sutton, MA.Joseph(4)'s second wife was named Anna Davis. The accepted ancestral line of descent is thus: Mary(5), Joseph(4), Samuel(3), Samuel(2), Thomas(1) Chamberlain. Please contact me via Email if you wish to discuss this information in greater detail.I do hope it is helpful to you, and that you will disregard erroneous information listed elsewhere, suggesting that your Mary was the daughter of Williams & Mary (Rand) Ch'n, and accept this ancestry, as I've outlined it here, as the correct one.
