Oops!I listed the wrong year. This information was from a pension index for veterans of the War of 1812.
John BridgeSC-1114
married 2/1/1814 Wayne County, New York
Betsey (Chamberlain)
he served Harrington and Morhouse's company's NY
and they lived in Lorain County, Ohio and Kent County, Michigan
Usually if a woman outlives the veteran, in order to collect on the pension she has to show proof of marriage.Originally I received the information from a distant cousin who could not say how she arrived at the information.I have since found the source. In 1820 the couple lived in Palmyra, then in 1830 in Walworth. From what I can tell, the couple probably didn't move--the township and county changed.
I am unable to locate Betsey in the 1850 or later censuses.I found John Bridge(at age 75) in the 1870 census living with (presumeably) son Alanson in Lorain, OH.Supposedly John died in Michigan in 1880.I found John's name in a listing of people filing for loss property in the War of 1812.His address was Grand Rapids, MI at that time.
