A single Chamberlain photo shows a modest granite gravestone inscribed, "J. Chamberlain, Born July 12, 1831, Died March 2, 1904 // Martha A. Chamberlain, Born July 31, 1834." This is Jeremiah(5) Chamberlain [Andrew(4), Jeremiah(3), Ninian(2), prob. John(1)], b. 12 Jul 1831, Grainger Co., TN, d. 2 Mar 1904, Roane Co., TN, who married, 23 Jun 1853, in Grainger Co., TN, Martha A. E. Widows/Widders, b. 31 Jul 1834, Grainger Co., TN, d. 7 Jan 1916, Loudon Co., TN; 11 children listed. Called "Jerry", he was a laborer and farmer, residing in Grainger, Hamblen, Roane and perhaps other counties in Tennessee, according to census records. Other members of this family are also buried in Oral Cemetery. My records here identify these 11 children and a number of grandchildren, mostly in TN, but much remains to be done to trace Jerry's descendants on down to the present day.
This is part of a very large and well-researched Chamberlain family which originated in Ireland. Much has been published (or posted on the Internet) about them. Ninian(2) Chamberlain, the original immigrant ancestor [some brothers went elsewhere in America], who came from Ireland with his wife and children about 1756, lived in North Carolina, and received a land grant of 310 acres in Green Co., TN, for his service during the American Revolution. His son Jeremiah(3) also served in the American Revolution. The family migrated to various locations in Tennessee, then to Missouri, Arkansas and especially early on in Texas, where hundreds of known descendants have been identified. Please Email me <jbparker@provide.net> if you wish additional information, including the identity of persons who have researched this family in recent years.
