Chamberlain/McLean/Hoit - Clinton County, NY - 1830's
Still looking for the parents (father b. Massachusetts, mother b. New York) of Thomas Chamberlin (b. circa 1825 in NY) and his sister(?) Roxanna Chamberlin Hoit (b. 1820 in Canada), who settled in Ellenburg, Clinton Co, NY, in 1834.
They are likely connected to James B. Chamberlin, b. circa 1834, who was living with the James B. McLean family in Ellenburg in 1840 and 1850, next door to Roxanna Hoit.
Roxanna Chamberlin moved to Ellenburg from ? in 1834, and in 1835, she married Nathaniel Hoit, son of David Hoit. In 1820, James B. McLean was living in Malone, Franklin Co, NY, as was David Hoit. In 1830, James B. McLean was in Chazy, and in 1840 until his death, he lived in Ellenburg.
I think there is a definite connection between the McLean and Chamberlin families, but am not sure what it is. It is possible that Roxanna, Thomas and James B. were siblings and were orphaned in 1834, or it's possible that a McLean daughter, born between 1810 & 1815 was James B.'s mother. Whether or not James B. is their sibling, I believe that Roxanna and Thomas were orphaned in 1834 and that they came to Ellenburg to live with relatives.
Any information is much appreciated.
