I've not been able to identify this Huldah Chamberlain in my Chamberlain research files, but the following information may help point you in the right direction:
- There is no one with the surname of Krenton listed as head-of-household in any Vermont census, nor is this name listed in Mormon (IGI) records, nor is it listed in GenForum as a surname.
- The IGI lists a Huldah Chamberlain who m. Uriah Kimpton, 8 Nov 1816, Hartford, Windsor Co., VT.Hartford is just east of Pomfret, by the way, and not far from Woodstock.
- Census records in Vermont lists several Kimptons, and Kimpton is also listed as a surname with its own site within GenForum.I looked at some of those postings, but didn't come up with anything there.
- The 1850 Census for Pomfret, Windsor Co., VT, lists Uriah Kimpton, p. 377, #85/85, age 55, farmer, b. VT; Mary, age 50, b. VT; also Wyman Morris, age 79, farmer, b. CT, and Dorothy Morris, age 70, b. MA.If this is the same Uriah Kimpton, which is very likely, then he must have remarried.
- The 1850 Census lists Lemuel Chamberlin, age 69, b. RI, and his family, just 5 doors away from this Uriah Kimpton. There may well be a connection between these two families, one would suppose, based on this close association.
- This same Lemuel Chamberlin, who married Rebecca Dunham (of Woodstock, VT), was born 1781, Cumberland, Providence Co., RI.His father, Samuel Chamberlin who m. Jemima Bartlett, died in Pomfret in 1814, and at least one of Lemuel's 11 siblings (Lemuel being the youngest of 12), Samuel Jr., was married in Pomfret in 1812.None of his sisters is named Huldah (and they are all probably too old anyway to be your Huldah), but he had 3 brothers who are probably old enough to have been Huldah's father.Their names are Job, b. 1765; Amery, b. 1776; and William, b. 1779, all in Cumberland, Providence Co., RI.Of these three, I suppose that Job is probably the person listed as head-of-household, 1810 Census, Pomfret, listed on the same page as Lemuel, Samuel Sr. and Samuel Jr.I don't find Amery and William, but they may well have been living with Samuel Sr.
Now, just to confuse things a bit, there is another, totally unrelated Chamberlin family in Pomfret and Hartford, tied in with a Laban, Alonzo & Otis that you can find listed in Pomfret in the 1850 Census, with Laban listed all the way back to 1810 there.I haven't been able to identify your Huldah in this family, but it does contain three different persons with this given name of Huldah, so I've not ruled this family out as a possibility.I've also not ruled out the possibility that your Huldah was married to someone else before her marriage to Krenton or Kimpton, and her original surname was something else.
That's all I can come up with. Please contact me via Email is you wish to obtain more detailed info. concerning the persons/data listed above.
