All the data I have on Arvilla Chamberlain herself is that she was born c1846 in OH and married H. H. Hutchins of Maquoketta, IA.I have nothing on her descendants or her date/place of marriage. She was the daughter of Merrick G. Chamberlin, b. 1 Aug 1809, Dalton, Berkshire Co., MA, d. June 1874, Polk Co., NE, and his first wife, Lucretia Jane Landon, b. 1812, NY, d. Sept. 1869, Jackson Co., IA.They were married c1834 in Sweden, Monroe Co., NY.Merrick is listed in Census records as follows:
- 1850 Census, Litchfield Twp., Medina Co., OH, Merrick Chamberlin, p. 440, #1356/1862, age 41, farmer, b. MA; Lucretia, age 38, b. NY; Nelson, age 15, farmer, b. OH; Newman, age 12, b. OH; Wesley, age 6, b. OH; Arvilla, age 4, b. OH; Charles, age 2, b. OH
- 1860 Census Index, Prarie Spring Twp., Jackson Co., IA, Merrick C. Chamberlain, p. 102
- 1870 Census Index, Prarie Spring Twp., Jackson Co., IA, Minck Chamberlin, p. 082
Merrick moved with his parents to Monroe Co., NY c1812, then to the Akron, OH area soon after his marriage, then to Jackson Co., IA where he farmed, and on to Polk Co., NE in 1873, where he purchased 800 acres and died shortly afterwards. He is one of 9 children of Moses Chamberlin [parents unknown] & unknown wife, who appears with biographical information in the History of Blackhawk County, Iowa, pp. 647-650 (extracts reprinted in Chamberlain Chain, Vol. 8, p. 7).Moses' widow moved to Akron, Summit Co., OH after the death of her husband, where several of her other children settled.
