My prior posting dated 28 Sep 1999 lists an Ira b. 1782 in Chelmsford, MA.Another good possibility is Ira(6) Chamberlin, b. 1774 or 1784 in Colchester, CT [Ebenezer(5), William(4), Joseph(3), William(2), Henry(1) Chamberlin].This Ira married Salve/Salome Barnes on 16 Dec 1804 in Canaan, CT.My notes are as follows:
LN1369 [data from David Conrad Chamberlin, Sr.].This child not included in Glazier. He was not baptized at Colchester. In 1808, Ira (6) Chamberlin's parents conveyed land to him, consisting of four parcels of land which his father had purchased from 1793 to 1798.The house was on the east side of the Housatonic River near the road to Canaan. On 5 Mar 1811, Ira Chamberlin was appointed administrator of his father's estate.Ref. Ch'n Chain, Branch 93.CA News has his birth about 1784.
In 1850 Census, Portage Co., OH in HH#692 there is an Ira 66 MA; Salome 67 CT; Datus E. 13, CT.This information from Editor's response to Chamberlain Chain query, Vol. 26, p. 26, submitted by Chris Cironi, 2337 Vixen St., North Canton, OH 44720.Email: [[email protected]]Chris writes the following:
I believe that my ggg-grandfather was Ira "C."He came to Portage Co., OH about 1829 with his family.Portage Co. History states that he came from CT but I have found inconsistencies in the book.I believe his son was Albert.I have quit claim deeds from Albert & Marietta Chamberlain from Ira's estate dated 21 Feb 1860.Also a land transfer from Ira to Albert dated 4 Feb 1834.
- 1830 Census Index: Ira Chamberlin, Freedom Twp., Portage Co., OH 210
- 1830 Census Index: Albert Chamberlin, Freedom Twp., Portage Co., OH 210
End of my notes for Ira.A brief portion of my notes for Ira's father, Ebenezer(5) are as follows:
In 1778, Ebenezer Chamberlin, of Great Barrington, purchased 70 acres in Sheffield, MA.Ebenezer was listed in the 1790 census at Sheffield, (1-1-2).End of partial notes. Thus, it is possible that this Ira was born in MA rather than in CT as with his older siblings.
A final comment: The 1850 Census data you posted has children that are too young to have a mother age 66.It is more likely that Albert & Clarissa were children; the rest probably grandchildren.I don't find Albert listed in my 1850 Census index in Portage Co., OH, but he was certainly still alive and may have been living elsewhere.
