In my travels researching this name, I have come across one explanation that the dit Larose means used to be known as larose. The only Chagnon in my husbands tree was a Zoe Chagnon. She lived to be rather elderly and told my husband stories about her family. Now she was old and he was very young, but she told him that the laRose came from an event in France, where someone came back from a battle and the people strewed roses in his path. The rest of the story gets a little fanciful. Hope that this is of some help, although the only documentation I have on this person is her name on a baptismal certificate for her Grandson and a notation of her marriage to Henri Tibbitts in Biddeford, ME in the Maine State Archives. Also on a Birth certificate for their daughter. Happy Hunting Ethel
