The "Shonyo Mountain" outside of Magog is
named for the original Lewis Shonyo,
who emmigrated to the area in about 1820.

I don't know who his parents were - I think
they may have stayed in France, but I don't
know for sure.

There's some interesting research about
how this line went from Chagnon to
Shonyo - check
http://dpsinfo.com/tree/shonyo/chagnon.shonyo.html
for more information.

The Shonyos had pretty much emmigrated out
of the Magog area by about 1940. Daniel
Demeritt Shonyo, a son of Lewis Shonyo, lived
to be in his late '90s, and his widow lived
to be over 100. They stayed in the Magog
area. But Daniel's brother Lewis went to Vermont in the 1860s, and another brother went to Michigan. They had three sisters,
but I'm not sure where they settled.
