What basis do you use to determine that Simon and Jordan Chaffin were brothers?
They do have a paper trail of courthouse records believed beginning in Montgomery co., Va. circa 1790 and moving on to Grayson, Wythe and Russell counties in Va. Simon later went to Lawrence Co., Ky. and died there circa 1820 or before.
Jordan Chaffin married Elizabeth Berry, (dau. of Isaac Berry), July 17, 1798.
A John Chaffin witnessed this marriage. On July 23, 1798, this same John Chaffin married Rebecca Curnutt, (dau. of William Curnutt, Sr.). Both marriages took place in Montgomery Co., Va.
Jordan did not reciprocate as a witness for John and Rebecca however. He appears to have moved on.
If Simon indeed was the brother of Jordan, then why didn't he witness Jordan's marriage?
Simon and Agatha appear in Bedford Co., Va. court records as far back as 1773. Jordan does not appear to have been in any records that I've found to date before 1790.
I'm inclined to think that Simon may??? have been Jordan's father. No proof...just speculation.
Agatha Curnutt Chaffin was the dau. of James Curnutt and Sara(Basham)Curnutt.
William Curnutt, Sr. and Jane Curnutt were the parents of Rebecca Curnutt Chaffin.
Wm. Sr. and Agatha Curnutt Chaffin were brother and sister. Among their many siblings they had a brother, John Tolliver Curnutte, that married a Deresa Chaffin. (Deresa's parentage unknown.)
I have additional info if interested.
Can you offer any more insight/ Thanks
