Dear Susan:
Are you the same Susan Carbone that I sent a 4-6 page letter to on November 10, 2001? or was that your aunt or cousin? The letter I am sending, will be similar to the one that I sent out in November 2001. It will also include information and prices of the Liberty Gap, The Chaffins, Hoover’s Gap and The Millersburg’s 110. The Chaffin book is a genealogy book of the Chaffin family which include many families that married into the Chaffin family. It tell the stories about many of Joshua and Easter Chaffins descendants trips to the West and on the wagon trains in the 1830s and 1840s.
The Liberty Gap and Hoover’s Gap books gives the history of the pioneer villages in the areas. Many of Joshua and Easter Chaffin’s and Old Matthias Hoover’s descendants lived in the early 1800’s in these areas described in the books. Both books name and describes their pioneer life in the villages, their migration to the West and on the wagon trains. Both books describes the battles fought there during the Civil War. The Hoover’s Gap book is a 230 page bookwith 60 pictures, figures, charts and maps that were drawn by a professional artist. About one fourth of the book is devoted to the War. In the story, “Pollyanna, come and hear Papa John’s story of Roderick, the Mighty Warhorse,” you will see Nathan Bedford Forrest rise from private to general. It has been stated that General Forrest was the best cavalry leader of all times. Generals Rommel and Patton studied his tactics and applied them during World War II.
The Millersburg’s 110, will be out next year. It gives the history of the 110 men that signed up at Millersburg April 26, 1861 for service in the Confederate States of America. Rita has the book ( Millersburg’s 110 ) typed. She is drawing the battlefields and other pictures like the wedding of John Hunt Morgan and Martha Ready, General Bragg’s Murfreesboro Headquarters at Oakland, the Gala Ball at the Courthouse, etc. The book will have the pictures and biographies of 30 or more of the generals that led the Millersburg’s 110.
