Thank you for responding to my inquiry so quickly! I have
enjoyed this painting for 25 years and have always wondered
if I could find out more about S.R. Chaffee. Yesterday was
the day and isn't the internet wonderful!

The information from the Chaffee Genealogy describes my
painting perfectly. It is a quite scene in the country with
a cluster of trees and a small pond bearing their
reflection. What captured my attention immediately were the
colors and how well the painting was executed. I had taken
a water color course the summer before and realized how
difficult it is to do. Everything turned out looking like a
mud puddle. I realized that the painter of this picture
obviously knew what he/she was doing and had great talent.

Although the painting was marked on the back 1888, I wasn't
sure of it's exact age. Anyone can write anything on the
back side of a painting. But it was framed in a very large
gilted plaster frame with faded matting. The frame was in
pretty bad shape and I got rid of it, but could tell that it
probably was at least 75-100 years old. So I thought the
date might be accurate.

I would appreciate it if you have any suggestions of ways to
find out more about S.R. Chaffee and any other works he has
done ...and again, thank you for the information.
