I have been told that the Chaffee's in America,Canada, newfoundland, et al all originated with Thomas "father of us all".

My Chaffey always tried to use the CHAFFEY spelling, however there have been fourteen spellings found so far and still counting.

I am still trying to find where my gr, gr. grandfather, Joseph Chaffey was born, when and parents etc. Devon or Dorset, England
very vague info. lists abt. 1795. One family source Devonshire. Another family source Dorchester, Dorset. William H Chaffee book says Dorset. LDS has both Devon and Dorset; with no further information except his spouse by maiden name of Mitchell except she married under her widows name of McKenzie.
I have her documented baptism in Southampton, Hampshire,England @ St. Mary's Church in 1788.
I have the marriage documented from Prince Edward Island Archives 17 Apr. 1828. His name spelled as Carey and hers as McKenzie.
Also have my gr. grandfather George Chaffey's birth and baptism record from St. Pauls Presbyterian Church in Charlottetown, PEI (1 Dec. 1828) His DOB was later changed to be 30 Nov. 1830 for reasons of maybe propriety??? I have been unable to determine when the switched DOB occured. Perhaps that was what he was told since he was a bit "early".
When I started this several months ago I was really ignorant since my Chaffey ancesters were the only chaffey family in all of Prince Edward Island and later in all of Humboldt County of California, USA, I believed tracking him down would be a piece of cake. Boy, was I ever wrong! Lotsa Chaffeys, Chaffees, Chafeys etc etc.
