I'm looking for a James Chaffey, reportedly born in Somerset in 1747. One of 21 children, he trained as a goldsmith in London before emigrating to America sometime around 1765. The ship he was on sank, but he was rescued and landed in Philadelphia. He made his way to New Brunswick before 1770 where he died in 1797. A brother, who was a brewer, also emigrated at some point, but returned to England. Jame's oldest daughter, born 1775, was named Susannah. Any connection to your Chaffeys?
