Hi Cousin! My brother Robert recently attended a Chaffee family reunion in Kansas that may have included descendants of your greatgrandfather, Alburtus Belknap Chaffee. We are very distantly related to your grandfather but all of us are Thomas Chaffee descendants. I am hoping to receive genealogical info about those at that reunion soon, and I will pass along info on who you can contact when I get it. Meanwhile, see all of my earlier messages in this forum.
The book THE CHAFFEE GENEALOGY by William H. Chaffee (1909) indicates the following:
"Alburtis Belknap 7 Chaffee (James Cady 6, Stephen 5, James 4, Joseph 3, Joseph 2, Thomas 1) was born in Cattaraugus County, NY., Sept 28, 1841, and married in Warren, Ill., Aug 29, 1867, Anna C., daughter of John Underwood of Galesburg, Ill. Mr Chaffee served during the Civil War in Company G, 1st Illinois Cavalry and as Color Sargent in Company C, 83rd Illinois Infantry. In the fall of 1861 he was captured in Lexington, MO., at Mulligan's Surrender. In 1884 he lived in Concordia, KS., where he was a loan and insurance agent.
Children:
John Franklin Chaffee, b Dec. 4, 1868.
Stella C. Chaffee, b Mar 31, 1870.
Arthur B. Chaffee, b Dec 22, 1872.
Anna R. Chaffee, b Nov 24, 1881."
There is no further information on descendants; however, there is considerable information on ancestors from James Cady Chaffee back to Thomas, with from 1 to 15 pages on each, plus info on Chaffcombe in England, for a total of about 62 pages in the book that would be of interest to you.
I recommend that you try to locate a copy of the book, which should be in any good library, particularly a genealogical one.
