The Chaffee Genealogy by William H. Chaffee has over 100 entries in the index for "Charles Chaffee" and 15 for "Charles E. Chaffee". Best candidate is shown as:
"Charles E. Chaffee, married, lived in De Kalb, IL., in 1883, and in Courtland, Ill, in 1886. One child, George." DOB, place, wife, not known.
Parents:
"George Washington Chaffee (William,6; Joseph,5; Thomas,4; Thomas,3; Nathaniel,2; Thomas,1) was born in Olneyville, RI, Apr 6, 1819, and died in De Kalb, IL Jan 23, 1886. He married, Aug 22, 1850, Philena Campbell, who was living in 1886 in Courtland, IL. He lived in OWEGO, NY, and in the spring of 1876 moved with his family to De Kalb, where he spent his remaining years. He was buried in Afton, NY. He was a farmer and known as a true and honorable man. Children: i Charles E. Chaffee, married. ii Maria B. Chaffee, residence, 1883, De Kalb, 1886, Courtland."
Grandparents:
William 6 Chaffee, b Rehoboth, MA, Feb 4, 1786, married in Rehoboth, Martha Bowen of Weekonk, MA, on Dec ll, 1808. She was born in 1790. William was a farmer, cooper, blacksmith, and served in the "first company of infantry in the town of North Providence" as Ensign, then Lieutenant, then Captain. He was a member of the Rhode Island Legislature for 12 years, serving first as a Representative and later as a State Senator. Chaffee Street in North Providence was named after him. Moved to Warren PA. He became a Deacon there and lived to see his gr-gr-grandchild before he died in Warren Mar 29, 1880.
