St. Charles (Kane County, Illinois) Chronicle, Nov. 17, 1932, Chaffee Quits Bank For State Position. John W. Chaffee, for 33 years active in local banking circles and in civic activities, has this week resigned his position with the State Bank of St. Charles to take the post of auditor in the State Department of Public Welfare. His position will take him to Elgin where his office will be in the State Hospital, but St. Charles is glad to learn that he will continue his residence in this city.
Active in the business, civic and religious circles of this community, M. Chaffee and his family have a host of friends here. He came to St. Charles in 1889 from Campton Township and entered the banking firm of John Stewart & Co., a predecessor of his late connection, as bookkeeper. Since then he has worked his way up as assistant cashier, cashier, vice president, president and chairman of the board. (Posted as a courtesy, not related.)
