For what it’s worth: Calvin Chaffee was the brother of my 3rd great-grandmother, Abigail Chaffee, wife of Amos [P.] Watkins. Although “The Chaffee Genealogy” book claims Amos and Abigail resided in Cazenovia, [Madison Co.], New York, I find no record of them there. But in the process of searching for them in Cazenovia, I took notes and copied records of any Watkinses I did find. A Calvin Watkins is among them. In the book “Abstracts from Madison County Newspapers in the Cazenovia, NY Public Library,” it lists people for whom letters are being held in the post office. On page 275, under the heading “Cazenovia, 1 July 1809,” Calvin Chaffee is one of the people listed. [As for Abigail, I believe she died early on. Amos P. Watkins, an apparent widower, is in the 1820 census of Scipio, Cayuga Co., New York. Scipio and Cazenovia are only about 50 miles apart. By 1835, Amos had moved to Ohio.]
