Sue,

I don't know if you will still be checking replies to this old message, but I have found out more about Ruth Hatch and James Chadwick since I last responded to one of your messages. I have received copies of James Chadwick's Rev. War pension file, his probate records...and have gone through the microfilmed records of China Maine and Falmouth MA. I believe with some certainty that this Ruth Hatch was the daughter of Ichabod Hatch and his wife Abigail Weeks. I have copies of James and Ruth marriage listing, Ichabod Hatch's will (probated about 1754 in Falmouth MA), and James Chadwick's birth record in Falmouth. There were only 3 Ruth Hatch's that could have been the wife of James: One the daughter of Benjamin Hatch and his wife Mary Bangs born 1733 in Harwich, one the daughter of Ichabod Hatch born 1729 in Tolland CT, and one the daughter of Stephen Hatch born 1735 in Falmouth. The one born 1733 married Jonathan Freeman and is mentioned as presenting Benjamin Hatch's will for probate as Ruth Freeman, the daughter of Stephen Hatch would have had to be 12 years old or less when marrying James which would have been highly unlikely in 1747 New England, so the daughter of Ichabod is most likely as her father had come back to Falmouth from Tolland CT before he died about 1754 and she would have been an age to marry in 1747. Also, the book on the Thomas Hatch family has a correction listed that the Ruth Hatch that married James Chadwick was the daughter of Ichabod. Ruth is mentioned in the will of Ichabod, but without a last name...just with a mention that her portion of the estate had already been given. I have been trying to find the original land records for Falmouth to see if she received land, but the records for 1747 to about 1782 are missing from the files. If Ruth Hatch Chadwick is the daughter of Ichabod Hatch there is a connection to Edward Fuller of the Mayflower. Let me know if you have found out anything new since your posting.
