You can read all about this family in "Granpa was a Whaler by Amy Muse. Samuel Chadwick (1691/96-1749) purchased 130 acres on the Straits in Carteret County on 31 May 1725 from Solomon Smith of Craven County and identified himself as "late of New England but now an inhabitant of Carteret Precinct." He was issued a permit on 29 Dec. 1725 for "three boats to fish for Whale or other Royall fish on ye Seay Coast of this Government" by Richd. Rustull, governor of North Carolina. Ephraim and Ebenezer also settled in Carteret County and were whalers. Muse said that they were thought to be a kinsmen of Joseph Chadwick and a relatives or sons of Andrew Chadwick of England. However, I think they were likely children of Samuel Chadwick and Mary Stoker, who were married in Woburn/Reading, MA January 22, 1684/85. In that case, they had a sister, Mary, b. November 02, 1685, who married Joel Jenkins in Reading on December 27, 1704.
