In a word, yes! Unlike most other English names, Chadwick originated from a specific family in a specific town in Lancaster, England. It does NOT not include 'variant' spellings such as Shadduck, Chaddick, etc. The well known coat of arms was given to the family in the 11th century by William the Conquerer for our participation in the Battle of Hastings ah nd the name has been spelled ONLY one way for a thousand years. The Chadwicks were/are among the oldest Catholic families in England and partial inspiration for the family in Brideshead Revisited. As Halloween approches, one notorios ancestor is Annie Chadwick aka Chattox---a very famous PENDLE witch in the 1600s..."Annie thou art a Chadwick!!!" screamed the judge before sentencing her to death.
