Bill Chadwell, alias Bill Stiles, alias Bill Chadwell, was killed Sept. 7,1876 during the raid on the First National Bank in Northfield, Minnesota. Bill Stiles was a native of Minnesota and that is why he was the "tour guide" for the Jesse James gang. Early Minnesota census records establish that a William Stiles was a resident of that state. It is unlikely that the robbers killed in the Northfield robbery have official burial sites anywhere because their bodiesreportedly were purchased and used by a medical school for study purposes. My guess is that their remains were cremated and/or placed in an unmarked grave and received no furthur attention.I doubt if the good citizens of Minnesota would have gone to any expense for these killers; they were not looked upon as heros by the Yankee folks up north.
My family, like others, also have carried forward the myth that Bill "Chadwell" was a relative, and that he was buried in Round Rock, Texas. There seems to be more proof that he was a Stiles, not a Chadwell. If anyone can prove the existance of this Bill Chadwell, we all need to know.
