I am a Stiles and my family settled in southeastern Minnesota in 1864.The story that I grew up with was that my great-great-grandfather had hired a young Bill Chadwell as hand on his farm. After leaving the farm, he used the alias "Bill Stiles" as an outlaw, which also happened to be my great-great-grandfather's name.I understand that it caused a lot of confusion among the family back east when word made it there that Bill Stiles had been killed in Northfield, Minnesota while robbing a bank (70 miles north of my family's homestead).
