9. EDWARD THOMAS CHADWELL3,(George2, James1), born 1834 in Kentucky. The 1880 & 1900 Trimble Co., Kentucky censuses show his father and mother born in Virginia, thus, I believe his parents were George Chadwell and Lucy (Lucinda) Mahoney.Thomas (Edward) Chadwell married (1), 22 Aug. 1854 Amanda E. Beetum of Henry Co., Kentucky. They were wed at the home of Owen Mahorney (Mahoney) of Henry Co.I believe that she was his first wife.Per the 1860 census of Jefferson Co., Indiana, Amanda was born ca. 1836 in Kentucky. Her father probably was William Beetum of Henry Co.She apparently died ca. 1867, possibly as a result of the birth of her daughter of the same name.Thomas married (2) 8 Aug. 1867, Mary E. Prather in Jefferson Co., Indiana.
(According to the Trimble Co. Vital Statistics, a Thomas Chadwell & Mary Prather had a son born 21 Nov. 1875(6).The son probably was Noble, shown below.)Mary was born Feb. 1850 in Kentucky. In the 1870 & 1880 censuses of Trimble Co., Kentucky, Thomas' mother, Lucinda (Lucy?), was living with the family. Her then-stated ages of seventy-eight & ninety-three, respectively, established her birth as closely agreeing with the birth year of 1794 stated on Lucy Mahoney's 1811 marriage record to George Chadwell. In the 1910 census she was no longer with the family; she probably died shortly after 1880.)
Thomas (Edward) was shown in the Henry County Tax List in 1855 and 1858-1860.Also in 1860 he was in Jefferson Co., Indiana for the census. In the 1870 & 1880 censuses he was in Trimble Co., Kentucky. In earlier years Edward apparently went by his other name, Thomas. In the 1900 census he was still in Trimble Co.According to the 1910 census Edward was back in Indiana living in the city of Indianapolis.By then he was retired with eight of his children still living at home.
Edward would have been a brother to George W. Chadwell and an uncle of Turner Dixon Chadwell. In later years Edward's son, Clement C. Chadwell, was attending the Milton Methodist Church in Kentucky, as was his cousin Turner.
The Children of Edward Thomas Chadwell & Amanda E. Beetum:
i. Lucy Ann Chadwell, b. 21 Nov. 1855 in Trimble Co., Ky. Lucy may have been named for her grandmother, Lucy Mahoney. She m. in Jefferson Co., Ind. 5 Feb. 1874 John S. Morris. They had children named Ann, Fred, Charles and Edna May. According to Henry County, Ky. Vital Statistics, a Kercy A. Chadwell was born 1855 to Thomas Chadwell and Amanda A. Butem [sic]. She was born at Emily Run,, which is a creek that runs to Drennon Creek, wheremembers of the James Chadwell family lived. Kercy Ann and Lucy Ann undoubtedly are the same person.
ii. Elnora Chadwell, b. ca. 1857 in Ky. Elnora ("Nora") was in the 1880 census of Trimble Co. working as a servant. Note: Henry County, Ky. Vital Statistics - 1852-1861, indicate that an Anna Chadwell was born 8 Dec. 1857 at Martin's Branch to Thomas Chadwell and Amanda Butem [sic].This may be the same person as Elnora, above.
iii. Mary A. Chadwell, b. ca. 1861 in Ky.
