Dear Jim,
I really have not gone much farther back than Claiborne Co., Tenn. on my resc.I am planning a trip within the yr. to Claib. Co., Tenn.Possibly not much in the way of deeds and probates and such since the court house burned in early 1820, most of the early records are gone I am afraid. There is indeed a lot of info on the children and grandchildren there. There is a picture on line of the old home place and of David Chadwell's AR stone, but I don't think they ever did find for certain where he is buried.
I did find a lot of land grants on various Chadwell names and including David Chadwell in Lee Co., Va. ie. Alexander H. Chadwell, David in Lee Co., Halifax Co.,Henry Co.,starting in about 1766, George in 1760 Halifax Co., John in Halifax,1768 and lower Norfolk Co.,in 1670 and a Peyton Chadwell in Lee Co., in 1837.The Chadwell line were in and thru all these Va. counties.
I have a borrowed copy of the Chadwell Heritage by Braun - Phillips, I use this as a road map so to speak, I do like to do my own resc. and I am very afraid of the written word.I know for a fact there are some problems with the book, but it is a starting point.
