Chadderdons of Cayuga County, NY in the mid 1800s
My ancestors John and Emuline Moore resided in or near Weedsport, Cayuga County, NY in the mid 1800’s.
Information in an 1855 Cayuga County census indicates that Emuline was age 34 at the time and suggests that Emuline’s maiden name MAY have been Chadderdon (other spellings used by the census takers include Chittendon and Chattendon) as evidenced by two Chittendon “sisters”, Elizabeth and Rebeca, living with the Moore family at the time.
Cemetery records show “Chadderdon” grave sites including that of Nathan Chadderdon’s first wife, Phoebe Jane.Nathan’s name is misspelled in the 1855 census as Chattendon.Nathan and his second wife Mariah are shown in 1855 with 5 children (3 male, 2 female) whose names are almost impossible to read.Nathan’s age that year of 43, suggests that he could have been a brother of Emuline Moore.
Can anyone help me verify this possible Moore-Chadderdon connection?
