Found Melvin J. Zelliff in 1870 census in Buckingham Twp, Tama County, Iowa 34 yrs old, born NY, with wife Hattie 30, daughter Carie E. 9/12, and mother-in-law Nancy Kimball

Melvin Zeleft in 1880 census in Minnehaha, SD, 45 yrs, born NY, with wife Harrietta 41, daughter Carrie 11, m-i-l Nancy Kimball 84

Melvin J. Zeliff in 1900 census, Garretson City, Minnehaha, SD, 67 yrs, born NY, with wife Harriett I. 62, Carrie E. 31

Melvin Zeliff in 1910 census, Good Water Twp, Sully County, SD, 77 yrs, born NY, with wife Harriett 69, Carry Hunsley 40, son-in-law Thomas Hunsley 32

Harriett I. Zeliff in 1920 census, Sully, SD, 81, Carrie E. Hunsley 50, Thomas E. Hunsley (no indication that they had any kids)

Also, from SD state census:

1905 Harriett age 67, married

1915 Harriett age 77, widow

So Melvin died between 1910 and 1915.

I have an old photo that one of my wife's aunts gave me many years ago. Did not know who it was, just an older man and younger woman. Just kept it. All it says on the back is:

"Pa & I, Shiloh, Sully Co"

I do not know of anyone else in the family who lived out there. The population of Sully County was quite small. Pretty good bet that this photo is Melvin and Carrie.
