I have a friend whose sister owns an antique store in Central Maine. A few years ago she allowed me to photocopy the family records in an 1848 Family Bible. The records, copied in color, look nearly like the original yellowed pages. I do not know what became of the original Bible, as we all know that heirlooms do not always go where they are supposed to go. In the Bible is written: "This Family Bible belonged to Samuel S. Hinchman, the husband of Rachel S. Hinchman died October 29th 1876 left this family Bible to his wife Rachel S. Hinchman, and at her death it belongs to their daughter Laura Virginia Hinchman." Then is written: "I am the daughter of Samuel S. and Rachel S. Hinchman hereby bequeth this Family Bible to my oldest son Isaac R. Garrison at my death to take possession of it as a direct descendant and he shall do likewise to keep it allways in the family, Laura Virginia Garrison." I photocopied the Bible records in color and also in black and white, and got a copy that looks very much like the original. I copied clippings, calling cards, notices and letters reporting deaths in the family, marriage certificate of Johnathan A. Garrison and Laura V. Hinchman. Some of the names mentioned in the Family records and/or the clippings are: Hinchman, Garrison, Dieckman, Zane, Neel, Bates, Ward, Allen, Hartman, Sidebottom and Holt. Some only had minor mention, but were mentioned. I would be in seventh-genealogical-heaven if I could come across a Family Bible with as extensive records as this one possesses of one or all of my ancestors. I will make as good a copy as possible of the Bible records to any descendants who are interested, asking only for the postage needed to send it. May God richly bless, Isabel Morse Maresh, mareshme@fairpoint.net
