Ross, We use the Family Tree DNA Company's 37-marker, or more marker's, in the Yarbrough DNA test. We test the males for the Y chromosome in testing the paternal lines. Some of our participants also test the "X" chromosome through additional testing called mtDNA to determine relationships of the female ancestry. All of the tests will produce a "Haplogroup" results that marks ancestral origins such as European, Mid-eastern, African, or Native American. FTDNA has just come out with a new test and program to identify closeness of relationships of both paternal and maternal lines to others who have participated. It is called "Family Finder". I recommend that you explore the information at FTDNA http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?code=H21681&Group=Ross The ROSS Family DNA Project is at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cherietree/RossFamily/rossdnaprojecthome.htm And, look over the DNA Forum questions and answers. http://genforum.genealogy.com/dna/ |
