May Urbanek in her "Wyoming Place Names" lists Painter, Park County, discontinued ranch post office named for John R. Painter. I could not find the location on late 19th century Wyoming maps. Her entry for Ishawooa Cone, Creek, Mesa, and Pass in Park County reads: a Shoshone name meaning "lying warm." The Mesa, 11,840 feet in elevation, .... The Pass, 9,870, .... These are southwest of Cody. There is likely more information available but not immediately accessible to me.
