Ancestry has a Navy Muster Rolls online and a Fold3 may also have them. Since you have his separation papers, you have his service number. Post it here with his name and I can look it up or go to local library or LDS Family History Center to see if they have either websites to use for free. You could also use a free trial, that way you can print out the scanned images of crew lists.
You can also get a copy of his Naval Service Record from the NARA.

USN RS T.I. San Pedro, Calif.
USN Receiving Station Terminal Island San Pedro CA.

Same place my husband was stationed awaiting his discharge. Today the area is used by Japanese and other overseas auto makers to park the their cars coming off the ships awaiting transport to USA dealerships.

Did you find this Dec 31, 2003 message?

Looks like he was assigned to a shore duty station, not a ship.
