Hoping someone might know a little bit about the 17th FAO Battalion who operated in the ETO? I have my dad's battalion history book which has helped but. . . It seems to me they would be considered a special ops group by today's military? No seeums, often in danger, yet still providing important counter-attack info on enemy gun postions to those who they supported.
Am I right in assuming the 17th FAO was a non-divisional unit during the ETO of WW II? Also because of this it will be harder to find further information other than what's in their history book?
Any help in directing me or telling me it's hopeless will be appreciated!
Thanks Linda (daughter of one 17th FAO Bn member)
