My grandfather enlisted a little sooner, but he also ended up in New Guinea. He also contracted malaria, which is why he was sent home. Later after recovery he was asked if he wanted to serve in Normandy, he wanted to but my father was about to be born. What a descion that was..Anyway I never hear anything about New Guinea. My grandfather never talked about it, which makes you think something happened. My other grandfather was in the Navy in Korea and he received a yearbook of sorts, and so did the husband a marine piolet from WWII I know. Did your father receive anything like that from the Guinea campaign?
