Thanks for your input. All I had to go on initially was a tombstone. Info on the 33rd Div came from my first attempts to find out more about the 136th via Google.
I now have this: Kansas Military Index, World War I Bounty Claims Records: Jenkins, Leroy Bryant: Branch: Army, Papers: Box 23, folder 1. My next stop will be the National Archives here in Washington. That sounds very promising and very specific.
