From Rootsweb.

Anne's son Allen Williams said that his mother was an illegitimate child who was raised by her grandparents. After John L. Williams died, as a result of being thrown from his horse, she never remarried. She apparantly supported herself and her young children by working as a housekeeper. In 1860 she and seven of her children were living in the household of Berry Cauley, a 65 year old farmer. Her occupation was listed as "domestic". By 1870, Annie and her three youngest children were living together and her son, Allen, was listed as "head of the household". In her later years, she lived with her son Allen and his family.
