(Alexander is at the bottom of the page, smudged beyond legibility. He is indexed as "Elizabeth".) Elizabeth Meadows, 58, West Virginia, White, Head (The rest of the family is on the next page) Mary Meadows, 67, West Virginia, White, Wife Liza E Meadows, 27, Daughter Deliah Meadows, 23, Daughter Columbus Meadows, 4, West Virginia White Son (Columbus is not a son, unless Alexander was trifling with a maiden under the age of 50. I'd bet he was a grand-son, but you never know. Alexander may still have had lead in his pencil and found someone to write to.) Mary's "years of present marriage" is 38, which makes her wedding year 1862. =============================================== I can't find William and MAry in 1900 or 1910. There are several possibilities, but I'd need some childrens' name to eliminate the false hits. http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_mcdetail.aspx?Id=10209225 has an Alexander Meadows marrying a Mary Richmond in 1862 in Greenbrier Co. Three or four people on RWWC have a Mary E. Grimmett marrying a Jacob Richmond in Greenbrier. Many of them show her dying in 1859. If 1) Someone put Jacob's death year in Mary's record 2) Everyone else copied without checking 3) The WV Marriage record above is your Alexander, then Mary Grimmett had two husbands and the age discrepancy is explained. Alexander married a widow 10 years his senior. The 1862 from the marriage license fits the 1862 from the "years present marriage" in the 1900 census. Other than that I have no proof. I can't find Mary as a Richmond or a Grimmett in the 1860 census.
